What are all these new Jim Snyder Designs about? After the KOR came out almost two years ago there seems to have been a flurry of new Jim Snyder designs. What's this all about? Well- the KOR was based on two key concepts- pursuit of destination-oriented spincentric mysteries in moderate arenas where the rider wants to crank up his or her performance and downtime. AND the new smaller friendlier Jimirim. It imposes less of a bump on the inside of the deck and so allows more adjustability in your seating position and more ease of entry/exit. Well both concepts worked. So the same concepts were applied to address the needs of paddlers with longer legs- and the Ninja was born.
But the KOR is really a park and sink boat at heart and not really designed for cruising - the zero rocker hull is a submarine and doesn't look too forgiving for cruising applications. So - there was a need for a cruising-friendly hull with a bit of rocker with the superior KOR deck. Hence the Soft KOR was created- small boat (longer and faster than many others though),cruiser friendly, good at mysteries- but not as spincentric as the KOR with the divoted hull. The Soft Ninja then is a similar boat for longer legged people.
To address difficulties Paul was having with the lowest chops of many designs- especially for people with lighter legs, Jim and Paul teamed up to design the Shy KOR- which is a Soft KOR (cruiser-friendly hull) which has been modified to make the bow significantly narrower and lower volume. It's called "Shy" because it has a smaller bow footprint. There's a chance the Shy KOR deck could be teamed up with a divoted KOR hull for a boat that's too sinky to think about- a "Destination" Shy KOR- but that's really complicating matters.
And then Jim hopes to have a new mystery oriented C-1 out by spring - that will be interesting....
So that's 6 (or seven) new designs from Jim in the last couple years.. maybe his cable's out....
