Metal flake (a.k.a. glitter, but we prefer metal flake) is the vibrant, glittery colors that make our boats sparkle. You can have a little metal flake or a lot of metal flake. Since we’re working with metal flakes, we need to mix them into a liquid to apply to the mold. (Composite boats are built from the outside in, so the colors are applied first.) We mix the flakes into gelcoat. Gelcoat has no color until you add metal flake, pigment, or both.
