The deck and the hull are constructed according to a lay up. The lay up details the types and quantities of materials to use. The lay up you select depends on how you plan to use the kayak. Generally speaking, the harder you plan to play, the beefier lay up you’ll want.
We name our lay ups by the number of layers of fabric in the deck and hull, and the type of fabric used. For example, the lay up ‘6/7 G/P’ is said ‘6 over 7 fiberglass and polyester’ and means 6 alternating layers of fabric in the deck and 7 alternating layers of fabric in the hull. Along with these layers of fabric, additional reinforcements are placed throughout the boat in high exposure areas.
